Owner and Executive Chef Rodney Mitchell is excited to showcase his passion for food using sustainable ingredients available right here in the community. Mitchell’s vision and his strong commitment to quality service are bound to set the Blawenburg Café and The Catering Company apart as strong staples of the community.
Executive Chef Rodney Mitchell’s love of fine food and cooking began shortly after his family moved to England. While traveling extensively throughout Europe, he got the opportunity to experience a wide variety of fine foods and regional dishes. He realized his passion for food and applied to the Culinary Institute of America where his skills were honed and his interest in cooking was given direction.
Upon graduation, he had the opportunity to work with some of New York City’s finest chefs. Alfred Portale at Gotham Bar an Grill; the Sign of the Dove with Chef Andy D’amico, Chef de Cuisine at Campagna, and Sous Chef for David Burke at Park Avenue Café. After trying American and Italian cuisine, Rodney decided to turn his focus to Latin food and opened Calle Ocho as Chef de Cuisine, two years later becoming Executive Chef. Rodney has spent the last five years back at Calle Ocho, while living and raising a family in Rocky Hill, NJ.
Purchasing and renovating the Blawenburg Café and The Catering Company has allowed him to fulfill his dream of bringing his vision and love of cooking to the community that he calls home.
